Gifts to Club Parkinson's through QDCs

Many members and supporters of Club Parkinson’s have begun to direct gifts to our programs Many members and supporters of Club Parkinson’s have begun to direct gifts to our programs through QCDs. Learn about QDCs below.

A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) is a tax-free transfer of funds from an IRA to a qualified charity, made directly by the IRA custodian without passing through the donor's hands. QCDs are available to IRA owners who are at least 70.5 years old, and can be made from traditional, rollover, or Roth IRAs. The maximum amount that can be donated tax-free in a year is $100,000, but there are some exceptions.

For example, QCDs made by IRA owners who are at least 73 years old also count towards their required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year. QCDs are beneficial to donors because the IRA assets go directly to charity; donors don't report QCDs as taxable income and don't owe any taxes on the QCD, even if they do not itemize deductions. Some donors may also find that QCDs provide greater tax savings than cash donations for which charitable tax deductions are claimed.
